If you’re in the Ramsey area craving a refined yet heartful Greek and Mediterranean dining experience that honors tradition and seafood excellence, Varka Restaurant is a truly exceptional destination.
Varka is my favorite restaurant in the Ramsey area! I've lived here with Celiac Annie for 4 years and have visited Varka 5-6 times for dinner. The experience is consistently above and beyond. Every aspect of the meal is exceptional, from the cocktails, menu, food, and service. Almost every time I've visited, I get the "Fagri for two" all to myself. It's a large portion, but since you get to pick your fish, I usually choose a smaller one. The octopus and saganaki are excellent appetizers. They are able to customize each dish as necessary for Celiac Annie, taking into account her allergies. This time, she went with the sea bass, and it was exceptional. Reservations are highly recommended, and I'd suggest booking at least 2 weeks in advance for specific dates or times. It's always packed on popular nights, so noise levels are a bit higher, as expected, but I enjoy the excitement. The price point is higher, but it's well worth it for the excellence. Service is always great.
Try to visit every time we visit NJ. Dined here quite a few times now and had an early dinner last night. Enjoyed as usual the roasted beets & chips. The octopus was tasty but this time it was quite salty. The fagri & king salmon were very tasty like before.
Delicious Greek restaurant, we ordered mostly from the appetizers and they were all very very good. The octopus was incredible, the lobster gyros were great too, although we expected something different. The green salad and the tuna tartare were fresh. Would highly recommend and repeat when in Ramsey. Only aspect I would try to improve is the sound - it’s quite loud, although you can tell they’ve tried to deal with the issue. Still a great place!
We had the pleasure of dining with Mariana who helped us choose from the fresh fish bar. The langoustines and tiger shrimp were excellent! Also the Fagri, fabulous to try for the first time with Grecian wine. The table service was very thoughtful and versed. Mariana had great recommendations. What a treat on our anniversary!
Solid, but sadly it’s overrated. The appetizers were thoughtless and the quality of a Greek diner, a good Greek diner. The highlight was the sole and dessert, but the apps really let me down. Interior decor feels stale and hasn’t innovated any in 20+ years.
Four of us ate dinner on the outside patio on a beautiful weekday night. It was very pleasant to sit there. By contrast the inside dining room was cold (the AC was on too high), dark and so loud you could barely hear yourself talk. And this was on a weekday--I can't even imagine what it's like on a weekend. This is a very upscale and very expensive restaurant with an extensive menu. Overall the food was excellent (though the swordfish kebob was overdone) and service was very good even though the restaurant was packed. We appreciated how accommodating of food allergies and preferences our server David was. A true professional. No problem at all tailoring dishes to meet our needs. There is a large parking lot with valet service. We had a very nice dining experience but would return only if outside seating was available.
Food was amazing! Service was on point! The drinks were not watered down and tasted great . The atmosphere was really nice! Love this place. Great for date night!
Anytime I am in the area, I always have at least 1 dinner at Varka. What a great restaurant with great staff. When I got back to my hotel, a member of the hotel staff asked me where I ate, I told her Varka and her immediate reply was "Varka never disappoints." She is right - Varka never disappoints. I've done large dinners there (10 or so folks) and small dinners with just 2 people. It's always a wonderful experience with great food. The fresh fish, steaks and you simply have to get the roased octopus.
